How it Started
As part of AUST’s effort aimed at helping countries in sub-Saharan Africa to optimally and sustainably utilize their solid mineral endowments for economic growth and prosperity, the University established the African Centre for Mineral Exploration and Development (ACMED) to facilitate the generation, deployment, and management of knowledge and technical skills necessary to enable African nations to diversify their economies by improving their solid mineral value chain to increase their foreign exchange earnings in the global solid minerals trade.

To be a leading Centre of Excellence that provides knowledge-based solutions that help countries in sub-Saharan Africa to better utilize their solid mineral endowments for socio-economic development.
Mission Statement
To advance multidisciplinary knowledge in solid mineral exploration and development and also provide cutting-edge solutions in the manner that will best serve sub-Saharan Africa in the 21st century.
